Partners with Purpose

Fresno State thrives because of the strength of its community partnerships. Partners with Purpose will build and expand collaborations with industry, nonprofits and philanthropy to fuel economic growth and social impact in the Valley. These trailblazing partnerships not only strengthen our region, they ripple outward, magnifying Fresno State’s influence across California and beyond.

To bring this pillar to life, Fresno State is advancing initiatives that deepen collaboration with philanthropic partners, industry, and community leaders. Each effort within Partners with Purpose is designed to channel generosity into action, strengthen the Valley’s social and economic fabric, and ensure that Fresno State’s impact is multiplied through shared vision and investment.

Partners with Purpose initiatives include:

The Fresno Family Counseling Center will expand access to free or sliding‑fee mental health counseling across the Valley, serving students and community members with culturally responsive, professionally supervised care. As part of Fresno State’s Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling program, where students receive the nationally recognized Dual‑Channel Feedback training, this investment will strengthen the region’s mental well-being while equipping future counselors with immersive, supervised clinical experience that supports both community and career readiness.

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) will expand into a vibrant center of intellectual enrichment for adults aged 50 and better, offering non-credit courses, lectures, and cultural programs that foster curiosity, community, and continued personal growth. Inspired by the growth of peer institutes nationwide, with over 120 campuses hosting Osher programs, serving tens of thousands of active members who pursue learning purely for joy and engagement, this initiative will enhance accessibility, launch innovative programming, and deepen intergenerational connections throughout the Valley. Anchored by the Bernard Osher Foundation’s legacy of lifelong learning, Fresno State’s OLLI will redefine aging as a phase of discovery and collective civic vitality.

The Physical Therapy Gait System will introduce a state-of-the-art ceiling‑mounted suspension system that supports patients during balance and gait training. It will empower therapists to safely oversee sit-to-stand transitions, stair climbing, and walking exercises. Building on Fresno State’s renowned Gait, Balance and Mobility Research and Education Center, where students learn through cutting-edge technology and real community care, this initiative will elevate clinical training and expand access to innovative rehabilitation services across the Valley.

“[Working with the Central Valley Health Policy Institute] was the first experience where I felt so deeply connected to my community members, and I saw the inequalities between the type of provider you get based on the type of insurance that you have. And it really got me thinking, ‘maybe I can be a solution to these problems.’”
