Moments that Matter
College is more than lectures and exams, it is a transformative journey filled with experiences that shape identity, purpose, and leadership. Moments that Matter will invest in high-impact practices such as mentoring, internships, cultural engagement, and co-curricular opportunities that deepen learning and prepare students to thrive in a diverse, global society. By enriching the Fresno State experience, we empower changemakers who will leave their mark far beyond our campus.
To realize this vision, Fresno State is advancing initiatives that elevate the student experience both inside and outside the classroom. Each effort within Moments that Matter is designed to spark growth, foster belonging, and connect students with opportunities that shape their future as leaders, innovators, and engaged citizens.
Moments that Matter initiatives include:
Valley Co-op for Athletics is a community-powered movement that strengthens Fresno State Athletics by supporting student-athlete recruitment, retention, and development. Modeled after agricultural co-ops, it invites broad participation to fund essentials like nutrition and travel—ensuring every gift has a real impact.
Launched with a transformational matching gift from Jami Hamel DeLaCerda, this initiative inspires collective investment in student-athlete success and the pride of the Valley.
Foundations for Success empowers first- and second-year engineering students through personalized advising, block-scheduled core classes, and a shared introductory curriculum. The program has strengthened retention, fostered belonging, and positioned the Lyles College of Engineering as a model for student success.
The Semiconductor Academy at the Lyles College of Engineering is preparing the next generation of leaders for one of the world’s most critical industries. With expanded courses, state-of-the-art labs, and hands-on research, students gain the skills and experience to thrive in semiconductor innovation and manufacturing.
This initiative positions Fresno State as a hub for semiconductor education—powering the Valley’s economy and the global technology landscape.
The Innovation Fund fuels creativity and real-world problem solving by giving every engineering team the resources to bring their capstone projects to life. It empowers students to turn bold ideas into tangible solutions—strengthening experiential learning, driving innovation, and preparing graduates to make an immediate impact.
This endowment will ensure future generations of Fresno State engineers have the support to complete this transformative capstone experience.
The AI Institute is Fresno State’s campus-wide hub for immersive AI learning and innovation. Integrated across every college, unit, and service, it equips students, faculty, staff, and the community with real-world fluency to lead with AI in their fields.
Building on the AI Campus portal, Task Force, and AI services, the Institute delivers ethical, human-centered literacy and hands-on practice for learning, teaching, research, and workforce needs. This initiative positions Fresno State as the Valley’s AI leader—preparing graduates, faculty, and organizations to thrive in the AI economy.
The Endowed Mobile Health Unit Directorship will create a dedicated leadership role to guide Fresno State’s two Mobile Health Units—expanding culturally respectful, free healthcare across the Valley while providing critical clinical training for students.
Since 2015, the units have served nearly 18,000 patients at more than 290 sites, trained over 4,200 students, and generated 23,000+ service-learning hours. This endowment will sustain that impact by strengthening partnerships, resupplying essential materials, and ensuring this life-changing outreach continues for generations.

“The Global Governance Study Abroad program was a transformative experience that equipped me with both the knowledge and inspiration to pursue a meaningful global career. It not only broadened my worldview but also solidified my passion for diplomacy and international service. By applying what I learned abroad to my coursework and conversations at Fresno State, I’ve also been able to bridge connections between local and international issues, encouraging others to think beyond borders.”
